After watching the Mets trounce the Phillies in game three to move to the brink of an NLCS berth, Brandon Tierney made the declaration that he was ready to take his Mets belief to the next level.
BT had been complimenting the team’s fight for weeks, but after seeing how they beat the NL East champs at Citi Field, it was time to buy in even more.
“I’ve taken the Mets seriously for a while now because I respect the way they’ve played, but I never looked at the Mets, even after what they did in Milwaukee or even over the weekend in Philly, and say ‘I can associate the Mets with a World Series team,’” BT said. “I’m starting to think the Mets can win the World Series, and at the very least get there.”
Sometimes the playoffs are simply about getting hot at the right time, and while the Mets are certainly accomplishing that right now, they are also showing so much more, which has BT buying into the idea that they could make this one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history.
“When you look at the components necessary, they’re checking every box,” BT said. “The stars are showing up. The role players are chipping in. the manager is hitting the right buttons. They’re catching the baseball, they are coming up clutch, and the starting rotation is giving them length.
“The Mets look like they can get to - and win - the World Series.”
