The Mets have lost eight of 10, their starting rotation has been in shambles most of the season, and the team's offense, especially the bottom half of the lineup, have struggled to generate runs.
BT wants to know when the general manager's capability of fielding a winning team is going to come into question.
"What has Billy Eppler done as a major league general manager? I'll wait," BT said. "If we're gonna go in on [Brian] Cashman, you better believe we're gonna go in on Billy Eppler. I don't mean to that degree, not right now…but as the general manager of the Angels, he was 332-376, had one of the best players of all time in his absolute prime [Mike Trout], and did nothing. They had free agent bombs in Anthony Rendon, and they never had any pitching. I mean, what has Billy Eppler ever done?"
Tiki brought up Eppler avoiding a Jacob deGrom contract, which looks good at the moment given deGrom's continued struggles to stay healthy. But BT wasn't calling that a win for Eppler, especially when the pitcher he brought in to replace deGrom is just now getting set for his season debut.
"I don't think that was Eppler's call, by the way," BT said. "Let's not give him that kind of juice. That was not a Billy Eppler call. No way.
"He didn't construct good pitching staffs there. Did he construct a good pitching staff here?"
