Buck Showalter was ejected for the first time as Mets manager on Tuesday night, though it wasn't enough to spark a much-needed win for the slumping group.
With New York already down 4-1 in the fifth, a slow grounder up the middle was nearly fielded by Francisco Lindor, but a sliding Wil Myers appeared to lift his hands up as he slid and slap the ball away from Lindor's glove, allowing both runners to reach safely instead of a potential inning-ending double play.
Lindor immediately pointed at Myers to plead his case, and after Showalter came out to argue, he was tossed in the eventual 7-6 defeat.
"It's hard to imagine four guys not being able to see what happened," Showalter said after the game. "There's about three ways you could get that play right. We had opportunities for it to not matter, we just didn't pitch very well early on.
"I just saw it differently. It's pretty obvious what it was."
Lindor saw it differently as well, telling reporters after the game that such a call like interference should be reviewable, as video replay is there for a reason.
As the Mets, Tuesday night felt like a replay of its own, as New York lost another game to a previously struggling team.
