Buck Showalter knows the strength of Mets top prospect Francisco Alvarez. He revealed that the 20-year-old catcher cannot fit his PitchCom wristband around his forearm, so he doesn't wear one at all.
Alvarez showed that strength in the Mets spring training game on Thursday night, blasting a titanic home run 441 feet into the night.
"I thought it had a chance to go to the scoreboard," Showalter said. "That scoreboard is not right past the fence. That was loud."
Alvarez told reporters during minor league camp that he hopes to reach the major leagues in 2022. If he continues to put charges into baseballs like he did on Thursday, he should have a good shot.
