Buck Showalter was asked after Wednesday night's loss, the teams fifth straight defeat, whether his club was starting to come to the ballpark expecting things to not go their way given their recent run.
But Showalter turned that idea down quickly, even as the Mets sank below .500 and further into third place in the NL East after blowing another early lead to the rival Braves.
"Coming off a tough loss yesterday and coming back and getting a lead, them going ahead and coming back and tying the game up, you don't get that if our guys have that mode of operation," Showalter said. "Our guys will get what they're putting into this eventually."
Many Mets fans don't share that patience, wondering when established veterans like Francisco Lindor, Daniel Vogelbach, and Jeff McNeil will begin performing closer to the level they had for much of their careers.
Aside from Vogelbach, many of the other veterans on the team have multiple years left on their contracts, some that were signed last winter, so New York has little choice but to hold out hope that things will turn around.
