According to recent reports, the Mets have interest in free agent J.D. Martinez, and that interest is mutual.
C-Mac's reaction? It's about time.
"He might be willing to spend some money and impact this year's team! I know, I didn't believe it either," C-Mac said. "But it sounds like Steve Cohen has okayed the idea of getting another bat for this year's team, and there is some interest in J.D. Martinez."
The Mets had reportedly been reluctant to have a short-term veteran reinforcement take at-bats away from the team's young core, but C-Mac says the Mets can have both, while giving themselves a better chance to win in 2024.
"For a one-year deal, and the numbers he had last year, it would make a lot of sense for this team," C-Mac said. "I don't think you need to give [Mark] Vientos every single stinking at-bat to get an idea of him.
"Even if it's a one-year deal to improve the lineup and give another bat to this team…I really don't think you have to just give each of the kids 700 at-bats. There is another way to work in a veteran onto this team."
