The Mets have suddenly turned things around, erasing a dreadful 0-5 start by getting back to .500 with a comeback win over the Pirates on Monday night.
C-Mac says the Mets deserve a ton of credit for pulling themselves out of the mud, but the fans deserve a wake-up call, as he ripped the lack of people in attendance at Citi Field so far this season.
“The crowd, by the way, there’s no other way to put it. It’s been an embarrassment,” C-Mac said. “The amount of people showing up to Citi Field, it just is. I know I’m a Yankee fan…you want to hate me for it? Hate me for it. it’s an embarrassment how many people are showing up to Citi Field so far this year.”
Just over 18,000 fans showed up in Queens on Monday to see Harrison Bader’s eighth-inning heroics result in another win, and while C-Mac says the fans deserve to be criticized, he made sure to add that the team itself is deserving of more support after turning things around so quickly.
“The offense has kind of woken up here. Alonso is hitting home runs,” C-Mac said. “The Mets are already back to .500. McNeil is having better at-bats, Baty is coming through…this Mets team has really done a remarkable job of putting that slow start behind them. That’s long gone. You can forget about that.”
