C-Mac sounded off on his concerns about the struggling Anthony Rizzo on Wednesday morning, which led to a discussion about his willingness to take Pete Alonso from the Mets, should they decide to hold a fire sale this summer.
“He’s a quirky guy, there’s no doubt about it,” C-Mac said. “But Rizzo has been bad. He’s been flat-out bad…they might look to target a first baseman, and you’re talking about a guy who hits a ton of home runs.
“Come on, you wouldn’t want Alonso on the Yankees? As a Yankee fan, do I think it’s an upgrade to have Pete Alonso over Anthony Rizzo? Absolutely it’s an upgrade. Pete Alonso is in the prime of his career.”
Alonso is a free agent at the end of the season, and the Yankees will already have to prepare to cut a massive paycheck to Juan Soto if they want to keep him in the Bronx. But if 2024 is truly an all-in year, C-Mac says they should look to upgrade at an important position like first base, especially since Rizzo isn’t showing any signs of finding his old form.
“If the New York Yankees offered Spencer Jones to a losing Mets team that is looking to trade Pete Alonso, I don’t think you get a top prospect from any other organization,” C-Mac said. “If you’re a Mets fan, would you consider it?”
