C-Mac: Mets could beat any team in National League with improved bullpen, so they must buy
As the Mets pick up another win on Wednesday night to move above .500 and within a half game of the final Wild Card spot, C-Mac says selling at the trade deadline has to officially be off the table for this group.
In fact, now is the time to buy, even if it means parting with some prospects after making a point to replenish the farm system last summer.
"There is a chance they could be in a Wild card Spot after [Thursday's] game," C-Mac said. "It's been a remarkable turnaround.
"No one is saying you have to go out and get [Mason] Miller and trade away all your best prospects, but the idea that you can't trade from this organization at all to try and bolster this bullpen…because honestly, if you have a dynamic bullpen with this team, what don't you have?"
C-Mac sees a lineup that can hit with any team in the National League when they're performing the way they have been in recent weeks, and a starting rotation that has plenty of capable playoff arms, even if there is no true ace to be seen. So, if the Mets can beat anyone, why would they do anything but buy at the deadline?
"[Jose] Quintana has been fantastic, [Luis] Severino I trust, and last year [Kodai] Senga was a legit No. 2," C-Mac said. "In a playoff series, you're talking about having multiple number twos and multiple threes.
"How do you not do what you can to make the one glaring weakness of your team better? The Dodgers are good, but how have they done in the playoffs since 2020? The Braves are good, but what have they done in the playoffs since their championship. The Phillies are good, but they can't be beat? They are right there with any team in the National League."
