C-Mac: Mets offense 'stinks at the moment,' has to wake up ASAP to save season

The Mets offense went down quietly in game three, getting shut out for the second time in three games to fall behind 2-1 in the NLCS.

In fact, aside from an early outburst in game two that included a leadoff Francisco Lindor home run and a Mark Vientos grand slam, the Mets have generated nothing on offense against the Dodgers, who took back momentum with a dominant 8-0 win on Wednesday night.

Chris McMonigle says New York is now essentially in do-or-die mode for Wednesday's game four, and the only way the team gets it done is if the bats finally snap out of it.

"Must win against the Dodgers tomorrow night," C-Mac said. "The offense stinks at the moment. This team that consistently comes through with big at-bats…if you're gonna play that game and wait for the heroics in the seventh or eighth inning, you have to keep it close. But it's hard to continue to do that.

"That's really the story of this game. The offense continues to struggle."

The Mets have enjoyed this improbable playoff run thanks in large part to multiple dramatic rallies, but those rallies have disguised the team's extended offensive malaises, and right now, that is coming to the forefront as the likes of Francisco Alvarez continue to struggle badly.

C-Mac doesn't see a lineup change coming, at least when it comes to Alvarez, which means he and the rest of the bats will have to wake up, or the team's magical journey will go no further.

"The Mets are now in dire straits needing a big win in game four," C-Mac said. "You cannot fall down 3-1. You can't. This is as close to a must win tomorrow, and right now, it's tough to keep [Alvarez] in the lineup. That's how bad he's been."
