C-Mac: No way Mets should be talking about trading Pete Alonso
According to recent reports, the Astros and Mets have had conversations about Pete Alonso, fueling speculation about a potential trade with the deadline just weeks away.
Some Mets fans are ready to move on from the pending free agent, who has largely been a disappointment in his contract year, but C-Mac says New York can't part with its homegrown star.
"I can't trade him! It's Pete Alonso," C-Mac said. "He hits 40 home runs a year. He's bound to hit 20 home runs in the second half. He might be your most important player down the stretch.
"I'm trying to win. I'm with [Brandon] Nimmo. I want to add. Let's go and win this thing."
As the Mets continue to turn their season around and now sit in a Wild Card spot, C-Mac says the focus should be on what the team can bring in to improve this year's roster, and 2024 is no longer about continuing to rebuild for a future that is never guaranteed.
"This conversation needs to go away. There is no trading Pete Alonso," C-Mac said. "Not to the Astros, not to anyone. I don't care what you think you can get back. Give him the qualifying offer, and if he leaves, you get two picks."
