C-Mac: Pete Alonso heroics proof of why Mets need to pay him
Pete Alonso saved the Mets from total nightmare on Thursday, belting a game-tying home run in the ninth to finally give the team some much-needed offense and, most importantly, avoid an 0-6 start to the year.
C-Mac says Alonso showed why he would be worth a big contract next winter, simply because the Mets would have no offense if it wasn't for their homegrown first baseman.
"That's why you pay Pete Alonso," C-Mac said. "That's why you keep Pete Alonso. Because he's the only one who does anything around here.
"It's hard, it is very difficult to find yourself in a position that the sixth game of the season is a must win, but damn if it didn't feel that way."
Thinking about the Mets offense without Alonso is a scary thought, one that C-Mac says should scare the front office into making sure Alonso doesn't leave.
"The offense is pitiful," C-Mac said. "Every single time Lindor has come up with guys on, he has been brutal. He can't move guys over.
"They are completely messed up…the offense just looks lifeless."
