C-Mac sounds off on Pete Alonso, says he is making it easier on Mets to let him go
Pete Alonso hit a home run in Friday's win over the Angels, but followed that up with just one hit over the next two games, both losses, starting the Mets important road trip off with a frustrating series defeat.
Alonso's OPS sits at .790 for the season, and C-Mac says the first baseman is only making things easier for the Mets to move on at the end of the year.
"Everybody else has been doing their job for the most part," C-Mac said. "I've been clamoring for Pete Alonso to make his case that he should be here, to make his case that he's one of the leaders of this team, and that he's indispensable, and the fact of the matter is, he's just not.
"Pete Alonso has not only played himself into a lesser contract, but he's played himself out of the idea of the fanbase revolting."
The front office seemingly would have had to deal with a livid fanbase if Alonso isn't re-signed this winter, but as he continues to underwhelm in his contract year, C-Mac believes that becomes less and less of a concern, as fans may not largely co-sign David Stearns and company electing not to offer Alonso big money this offseason.
"He is making it an easy decision, where there's a number they're comfortable with, and a number they won't be," C-Mac said. "This was an ugly series and start to an important road trip."
