C-Mac rips 'dumbest rule in baseball' after Mets controversial ending
The Mets dropped a 1-0 game to the Cubs on Monday night after Pete Alonso was thrown out at home on a game-ending double play, which was confirmed after Carlos Mendoza challenged the call.
Mendoza was not happy about the call, believing Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya was blocking home plate, and C-Mac agreed.
"I thought the home plate umpire should have absolutely called him safe…he beat the throw," C-Mac said. "If he's called safe on the field, I don't think they overturn it.
"This, in my opinion, is the dumbest rule in baseball. It is much worse than the extra inning rule…we have no idea. It is completely up to interpretation. Watching the play, he's clearly on the plate."
MLB released a statement after the game that replay review did not find that Amaya was definitely blocking the plate, which C-Mac couldn't believe given Amaya's foot was directly on home plate.
"There is no debate that the catcher has his foot on the plate before the ball gets there," C-Mac said. "That is literally the verbiage used to describe an illegal stance."
