C-Mac: Something is clearly missing with Mets core

C-Mac was alarmed with the lack of fight from the Mets, specifically their offense, in a shutout loss to the Tigers on Monday night, especially after being swept by Rhys Hoskins and the Brewers to begin the season.

With New York still searching for its first win of the year, C-Mac was expecting much more determination from the Mets on Monday, but it “just wasn’t there.”

“When you lose that kind of series, you have to come out, wipe that clean, and bring a different enthusiasm and fight. It just wasn’t there,” C-Mac said.

That issue prompts a bigger question from C-Mac: is this core the right one to lead the Mets into their next chapter, and the right band of veterans to lead the youth movement that the organization hopes is on the way?

“Whatever the plan is…if the core of your team that did win 101 games only two years ago is going to be lifeless…This team has not been the same since this Atlanta series a year and a half ago,” C-Mac said. “Since this team blew the division, there has been something off ever since. I don’t know if it’s the toughness or the fight…there’s something missing with the core of this group.

“Once this thing starts to snowball, it’s hard to stop. It’s gonna be really hard to stop if this is how the team responds to getting swept by the Brewers and having their manhood questioned. This is the response?”
