C-Mac couldn’t help but connect the dots after Buck Showalter was announced to not be returning as Mets manager next season, opening the door for a former beloved Met to take his place.
“It could be something we need to take a look at,” C-Mac said. “It’s pretty coincidental, that suddenly, this person is free, and the Met job opens up.
“Wally Backman and the Long Island Ducks parted ways two days ago. Coincidence? Wally Backman is not tethered to anything now.”
That was as far as C-Mac could go before breaking out in laughter.
“I can’t even say it with a straight face,” C-Mac said. “Stop calling about Wally Backman! He’s never gonna manage the Mets again!”
C-Mac already deals with it enough from Yankee fans clamoring for former franchise greats to take on managerial or coaching roles, and it can’t start with the Mets now too.
“Why not Keith Hernandez? Carlos Beltran?” C-Mac said sarcastically. “What’s Benny Agbayani up to these days? Maybe he can manage the team?”
