C-Mac: Time for Mets to put future on backburner, make adds that help this team win now

The streaking Mets won again on Thursday night, walking it off against the Braves in extra innings to make it four in a row, and to close within one game back in the loss column of Atlanta for the top Wild Card spot.

C-Mac has maintained through this hot streak that the Mets need to look to add at the trade deadline and buy into this team, and now, he believes it more than ever, and thoughts about the future need to be put on the backburner.

"This is a completely new season. Forget everything else," C-Mac said.

"I don't believe that this lineup and this team will be this hot and this good forever. Nobody is. But what we're seeing is not a mirage. What we're seeing is not fake."

So, if these Mets are indeed for real, it is time for David Stearns to look to make big swings at the deadline, not just marginal moves that will come at minimal cost. This team is worth investing in, and taking bigger risks to bolster this roster.

"Now you're getting to a point - and I think we're there…what level of buying are you willing to do?" C-Mac said. "They're one game back in the loss column of being the Wild Card leader…how serious do you take it? Are you willing to add pieces that won't be part of your long-term vision? At what point do you say the future is now?

"Special seasons don't come around that often."
