The final 10 rounds of the 2021 MLB Draft were held on Monday, and after selecting Vanderbilt RHP Kumar Rocker with the No. 10 overall pick on Sunday night and making nine picks Monday, the Mets added 10 more new Amazin’ prospects to the fold.
Look back at Rocker and the Day 2 picks, and then learn more about the Day 3 picks in our capsule profiles below:
ROUND 11 (No. 322 overall): OF Rowdey Jordan, Mississippi State (Senior)
The Mets got Rowdey with their first Day 3 pick, snagging the switch-hitting center fielder who slashed .323/.417/.546 with 10 homers in 68 games for the Bulldogs. He also ranked fourth in Division I with 74 runs as MSU’s leadoff hitter, and was a .311 hitter overall as a four-year starter in Starkville.
ROUND 12 (No. 352 overall): OF Jack-Thomas Wold, UNLV (Senior)
A lefty-hitting OF, Wold had a short but strong fourth season in Vegas, slashing .429/.491/.793 with 12 homers in 33 games. He was a four-year starter for the Rebels, with a career slash line of .340/.408/.543 with 25 homers and 118 RBI in 148 games.
ROUND 13 (No. 382 overall): OF Matt Rudick, San Diego State (Senior)
A four-year starter and three-time All-Mountain West pick for the Aztecs, Rudick led the Aztecs in 2020 in batting average (.410), runs scored (61), triples (4), stolen bases (17) and on-base percentage (.484), and was the hardest player in D1 to strike out (fanning once every 19.8 plate appearances).
His totals in runs and steals led the Mountain West, and the speedster played all three outfield spots over his four years in San Diego.
ROUND 14 (No. 412 overall): LHP Nathan Lavender, University of Illinois (Redshirt Soph.)
After missing 2020 due to injury, Lavender’s second season in Champaign saw him make nine starts and 13 appearances overall, going 7-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 79 strikeouts to just 15 walks in 57 innings. He led the Illini in strikeouts, and his 5.27 K/BB ratio was tops in the Big Ten.
ROUND 15 (No. 442 overall): SS Wyatt Young, Pepperdine (Junior)
Young was a three-year starter for the Waves, starting all 109 games he played and batting .318 overall. In 2021, he was second on the team with a .332 average, and led the team with 63 hits and 39 runs scored, adding three homers and 23 RBI.
ROUND 16 (No. 472 overall): RHP Trey McLoughlin, Fairfield University (Senior)
A local kid from Shelton, Conn., McLoughlin made 32 starts (and one relief appearance) over four years for the Stags, going 10-12 with a 5.40 ERA in 160 innings. He made just five starts in 2021 due to injury, going 2-0 with a 4.94 ERA and fanning 32 in 23 2/3 innings.
ROUND 17 (No. 502 overall): LHP Nick Zwack, Xavier University (Senior)
Zwack struggled as a swingman as an underclassman, but after posting a 2.31 ERA in four starts in the shortened 2020 season, the lefty paddy-whacked the competition this spring, going 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA in 80 innings pitched. He had a 4.71 overall ERA in 217 2/3 innings for the Musketeers, holding opponents to a .231 batting average against.
ROUND 18 (No. 532 overall): RHP Kolby Kubichek, University of Texas (Junior)
After two years as a swingman, Kubichek moved to the Longhorns’ rotation full-time in 2021, and went 5-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 12 starts. Over 79 career innings, the righty posted a 4.33 ERA.
ROUND 19 (No. 562 overall): C Drake Osborn, UL-Lafayette (Fifth-Year Senior)
Osborn hit .264 in four seasons as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette as a graduate student, taking advantage of the NCAA’s decision to give players an extra year of eligibility. He hit .361 in 50 games behind the dish for the Ragin’ Cajuns, but did miss some time with a second recurrence of a shoulder injury he initially suffered in 2020.
ROUND 20 (No. 592 overall): SS Justin Guerrera, Fairfield University (Junior)
Another local Stag from Watertown, Conn., Guerrera hit .297 with 20 home runs and 97 RBI in his three years at Fairfield, starting all 113 games he played. He hit 13 of those dingers this season, as he slashed .340/.409/.685 in 43 games.
