One of the Mets newest additions will have to wait even longer to make his spring training debut.
Carlos Carrasco, a big acquisition for New York as part of the Francisco Lindor blockbuster trade, has been sidelined with elbow soreness, and will pause from throwing for at least a few days.
Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters he hopes for Carrasco to resume throwing late next week.
Carrasco was originally supposed to make his spring debut this past weekend, but instead continued to ramp up through live batting practice sessions. He missed the start of spring training camp for undisclosed reasons that weren't injury related, but it nevertheless put him behind schedule from the other starters. Taijuan Walker, another new acquisition, was a late starter as well, but he made his debut on Tuesday.
Carrasco, just over a week away from turning 34, pitched to a 2.91 ERA in 68 innings last season with Cleveland. He was expected to be the team's third starter for Opening Day, slated behind Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman. He struggled with injuries during spring training last year, when he got a late start to camp due to a hip issue, then was shut down with elbow soreness after his first spring start.
