Boomer & Gio: If Mets don't turn things around soon, 'somebody's gonna have to go'

As the Mets get set to resume action against the struggling Cardinals on Friday night, Boomer and Gio agree that if things don't turn around soon, changes will have to be made.

"If something doesn't start shaking out the right way, eventually, somebody's gonna have to go," Boomer said. "You cannot keep churning and treading water, or losing water in this case."

Those changes would likely be on the coaching staff or front office, as the trade deadline is still six weeks away, so it's nearly impossible to execute any meaningful roster changes at this point. But if things still haven't turned around by the deadline, would the Mets even be looking to make a big addition?

"Where they are and what they do in that situation will be fascinating to me," Gio said. "Are they going to punt this year, or are they going to try to get a couple reinforcements to see if they can sneak into the Wild Card and maybe their everyday players that are out there that they're paying so much money will wake up and become a good baseball team at the end of the year.

"Last year, they were leading the division at the deadline…and they brought in Daniel Vogelbach and Darin Ruf because they thought they were good enough."
