Chris Bassitt wants to scrap Wednesday night's start as soon as possible, choosing to completely discard his first rough outing as a Met.
"This one won't feel good," Bassitt said. "I'm not going to take any positives from this one."
After allowing just one run through his first 12 innings of the season, Bassitt was knocked around for eight hits and five runs in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday night, though he did settle in to give New York six innings and salvage the bullpen.
"They had a really good plan and executed really well," Bassitt said. "I was up in the zone a lot and you can get weak contact when you're up in the zone.
"Their approaches were really good and that's what allows them to do weak-contact hits…It was just too many pitches up in the zone."
Bassitt allowed three runs in the first inning as the Giants scattered four hits, then a home run by Brandon Belt in the fourth extended the lead. But despite finding some sort of rhythm after the rocky first inning, the righty wants no part in mining for the positives of his first Mets clunker.
