Citi Field hilariously runs out of fireworks after Mets home run party

The Mets powered up against their beaten-down nemesis on Tuesday night, slugging their way to a 13-5 win over the hapless Braves to take the series opener and snap a seven-game losing streak.

The win was highlighted by Pete Alonso breaking the franchise home run record, clubbing an opposite-field blast for his 253rd career home run, passing Darryl Strawberry for the top spot on the all-time Mets list. The home run headlined a power surge from New York that resulted in the team running out of pyrotechnics to celebrate each long ball.

The sixth home run of the night came off the bat of Brett Baty, as he went back-to-back with Francisco Alvarez to blow the game open in the seventh. After Baty’s blast, the video board in center field flashed a message that there were no more fireworks to set off after each homer.

“Due to too many Mets home runs, we have unfortunately run out of fireworks for the night,” the message at Citi Field read. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Fans got a kick out of the message, even if it meant no more fireworks celebrations during a night that already had plenty of celebrating thanks to Alonso and company. Fortunately, the fireworks outage wasn’t noticed afterward, as the Mets were done slugging homers for the night.

All told, the Mets pounded out 13 runs on 16 hits in their quest to get back on track after losing 11 of their previous 12 games.
