The Chicago Cubs have dealt veteran reliever Mychal Givens to the Mets in exchange for minor-league RHP Saul Gonzalez.

Givens, 32, has a 2.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 40 games this season. Givens has a career 3.34 ERA in eight MLB seasons. The Cubs signed him to a one-year deal in March after he spent his first seven seasons with Baltimore, Colorado, and Cincinnati. The contract also includes a mutual option for 2023.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the Cubs were set to receive in return for Givens.

Givens will join a Mets team with championship expectations, as New York is 65-37 and sits in first place in the NL East by 3.5 games over second-place Atlanta entering play Tuesday.
