Keith: David Stearns is 'destroying what you thought of the Steve Cohen Mets'

Keith hasn't been impressed with some of the Mets additions this winter, but he doesn't think the offseason as a whole was better than some may think.

"I don't think the Mets are gonna be as bad as everyone says," Keith said. "The fact that they set the expectations low is genius. David Stearns coming in and not doing much, but they actually did, more than you realize. They made a bunch of little moves. They didn't land Yamamoto, so what? Only one team was gonna land Yamamoto.

"I don't think you have to be patient as far as sitting through a 75-win season…I think the bar is where the Yankees finished last year, 82 wins. If they finish on the upside of those 82 wins, they could get in as a Wild Card team."

But the goal, of course, is to be a consistent World Series threat, and Keith says the team is still a ways away from becoming that, so fans will have to be patient.

"I look at the Mets as the three years you just saw with Eppler and Steve Cohen thinking he could buy his way to a championship, it's gonna take at least three years to reverse some of that, but David Stearns has a vision," Keith said. "He's destroying what you thought of the Steve Cohen Mets and building it in his vision. He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing. It's gonna take a while, but be patient."
