Gio: David Stearns has to break trend of underwhelming Steve Cohen additions

David Stearns, as Steve Cohen had hoped, will reportedly by the Mets new president of baseball operations, and Gio can only hope that he will eventually be seen as a Frank Cashen or a builder of New York's next championship roster.

"Let's hope we look back in a few years and say 'That guy was the architect. That guy was the Stick Michael of the Mets. That kid, 38 years old, was the one who restored greatness to the Mets franchise,'" Gio said.

Stearns, seen as one of the great analytical baseball minds in any front office across the league, is more important to the Mets than Cohen, Gio says, and he can only hope that Stearns works out better than Billy Eppler has so far as general manager.

"More so than Steve Cohen's deep pockets, it's about baseball decisions…It's about who you hire," Gio said. "You gotta hire the right guys. Steve Cohen has hired the wrong guys since he's been here, in the upper echelon of the organization. Let's hope David Stearns is different."
