David Wright joined Boomer and Jerry on Tuesday morning, just in time to give his thoughts on Brett Baty, who was sent down to Triple-A on Monday amid his struggles at the big league level this season.

The Mets hope Baty can become the next Wright for the franchise, and be the team’s third baseman for years to come, and Wright believes this demotion will help Baty reach his potential.

“Every young player should go through some sort of adversity in their career…that’s what separates the payers that turn out and develop mentally better than others, guys that have slumped and know they can get out of that slump,” Wright said. “Brett unfortunately had to go through it in one of the biggest spots stages in the world in New York, but I think he’s gonna be better for it. He’s gonna go down and dominate, and we’ll probably see him again this year. I think this little bump in the road is actually gonna be good for him long term.”

As for the overall state of the Mets, Wright shared a similar sentiment: it was tough to swallow a fire sale amid a season that carried World Series expectations, but in the long run, the current direction of the organization will be what’s best for the long-term direction of the franchise.

“You have to make some of the decisions you made recently,” Wright said. “I don’t think there are many owners out there that would do what Steve Cohen did, and pay down a lot of those salaries to get better players in return.

“When you load up that far system…and give yourself more of an opportunity to develop those core players, and sprinkle in some free agents, I think that’s how you win, and sustain winning, over a long period of time.”
