Jacob deGrom made his spring training debut on Saturday afternoon, and was already flashing his Cy Young stuff.
The Mets ace turned in two scoreless innings against the Astros, allowing one run and one walk while striking out three, with all three punchouts coming in his second inning of work.
deGrom's outing began with Jose Siri hitting a hard line drive to shortstop to lead off the first inning, but Francisco Lindor was right there to make the grab for the out. deGrom followed by forcing Jose Altuve to ground out, then retired Yuli Gurriel on another lineout to end the inning following a walk to Kyle Tucker.
Then, in the second, deGrom looked like his midseason self.
deGrom began his second frame by freezing Martin Maldonado with a 99 mph fastball on the outside corner, and after allowing a double to Abraham Toro, the righty rebounded to fan Grae Kessinger and Jake Meyers to end the threat, striking out the duo on two more 99 mph heaters.
It was a solid debut for deGrom, who flashed his usual velocity and strikeout stuff.
