With All-Star reserves and pitchers set to be announced on Sunday, did Taijuan Walker just stake his claim for the Midsummer Classic?
Heading into Saturday's start against the Yankees as a strong candidate to receive a selection, the Mets righty turned in 5.2 solid innings of work, allowing two runs and striking out five while carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Walker's hitless bid ended when Aaron Judge parked a Yankee Stadium special just beyond the right field wall for a solo home run, after Walker had sat in the dugout for nearly a half hour as the Mets mounted a big rally.
Walker's performance shrunk his season ERA to 2.44, good for ninth in the National League, and with Jacob deGrom likely sitting out the All-Star Game, Walker seems like an obvious candidate.
