Another day, another Mets injury is added to the list.
Dominic Smith is not in New York's starting lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Rockies after he "banged up" his knee sliding into home plate during Tuesday night's victory.
Manager Luis Rojas told reporters that Smith has a knee contusion, but "should" be available off the bench if necessary.
Smith's absence from the lineup continues to thin the Mets' starting nine, which has newcomer Billy McKinney batting cleanup and playing right field. James McCann, who never played first base in his major or minor league career until earlier this week, is back at first, while newcomers Brandon Drury and Cameron Maybin fill out the outfield.
McKinney was acquired in a trade with the Brewers for a minor leaguer late Tuesday night. To make room for McKinney, Johneshwy Fargas was placed on the 10-day IL, making it 17 players on the injured list for the Mets.
