Edwin Diaz gets loudest ovation at Mets home opener, introduced to trumpets at Citi Field

Mets fan in attendance for Friday's home opener at Citi Field save their loudest cheers for last when the home team was introduced before first pitch.

With Howie Rose at the mic, Rose revealed that there was still one player left to introduce after rosters were lined up along the baselines, then introduced the 2022 National League Relief Pitcher of the Year as Edwin Diaz made his way up the dugout steps, crutches in hand and sporting a long leg brace, while the crowd gave their injured closer a rousing ovation.

Diaz's trademark "Narco" trumpets then kicked on as the crowd saluted Diaz, who was an All-Star for the Mets last season in a historically dominant season.

Diaz is on the mend after knee surgery following a tear to his patellar tendon that he suffered while celebrating on the field during the World Baseball Classic. He is likely done for the season, though Diaz has expressed optimism that he could return at some point.
