Evan calls in to WFAN to celebrate monumental day as a Mets fan: 'Juan Soto is a Met! Yes!'
Shortly after Sal Licata called in to Rickie Ricardo's show on WFAN in the wake of Juan Soto signing with the Mets, Evan Roberts followed suit to continue the celebration.
"This is the day," Evan said. "This is what we were waiting for. Juan Soto is a Met! Yes!"
Evan watched Soto pick apart Mets pitching as a divisional rival with the Nationals for years. He then watched him lead the rival Yankees to their first pennant in 15 years. Now, the superstar is on his side in one of the most monumental moments in franchise history.
"I admired this guy," Evan said. "I hated him...watching him torture me all those years in Washington, and having him be on my team now for the next 15 years, this is why you want a big-market owner."
Evan will have plenty more reaction on Monday afternoon, but in the immediate aftermath, he was much more focused on celebrating what the Mets accomplished rather than what they took away from the Yankees, even if it was admittedly an "added bonus."
"I think there's a lot of Mets fans out there who will celebrate this evening mostly for outdoing the Yankees," Evan said. "To me, it's an added bonus. I swear I mean that. This was always about getting this kind of player. If Juan Soto was still in San Diego or Washington, I promise I would have been just as excited."
