Evan loves Luis Severino signing: 'The Mets made a tremendous move'

The reaction to the Luis Severino signing by the Mets has been divisive, with some trolling New York for adding an oft-injured starter who pitched to nearly a 7.00 ERA last season.

Others have lauded the move as a low-risk, one-year flier on a former Cy Young finalist.

Evan is firmly in the latter group.

"I have pined for Luis Severino. I thought he was gonna have a big year for the Yankees, and I was wrong," Evan said. "But even after a terrible year, I wanted him. I know the Mets need starting pitching, and I wanted a high-reward, low-risk guy.

"To the Met fans out there that met that news last night with anger and disgust. To the Yankee fan - and I don't know what's wrong with some of you people that want to mock a smart baseball move, and say 'You're just eating our scraps.' To all of you people, I say kindly and respectfully, you don't know what the hell you're talking about."

Evan sees Severino as a lottery ticket with a proven ability to be an ace, and once that is paired with other rotation additions by the Mets this offseason, it will have the opportunity to be a home run.

"The Mets made a tremendous move last night. I was happy about it," Evan said. "I'm happy about it today, and Mets fans and Yankee fans need to pipe the hell down. This is a win for David Stearns."
