Evan: Mets handling Mark Vientos as if they don't like him

Daniel Vogelbach is reportedly being given a mental break by the Mets, seemingly explaining why he hasn’t had a plate appearance since June 7.

But that decision has led to a roster spot being taken up, while other bench players like Mark Vientos have still seen sparing playing time since Vogelbach was given a breather.

That is something Evan can’t figure out, and while he knows it’s not true, the Mets are treating their prospect like they don’t want anything to do with him.

“If he needs a mental break, fine,” Evan said of Vogelbach. “Put him on the IL so he isn’t taking up a roster spot.

“Here’s the problem with the Mets: they call up Mark Vientos, and it’s as if they’re trying to make him fail. It’s as if they’re saying to themselves - and I know this isn’t the case  - ‘We hate this kid so much, we’re gonna find every way to f--- with him.’”

Evan used to joke that the Mets played behind Jacob deGrom as if they didn’t like him, given the painfully low run support they provided their former ace with, and Vientos seems to be getting similar treatment from management.

“The Mets manage Mark Vientos as if they don’t like him,” Evan said.
