As Eduardo Escobar's slow start continues, logging just one hit in 16 at-bats, Mets fans are wondering why Brett Baty is still lurking in the minors.
The hyped New York prospect smacked two home runs, including a grand slam, on Saturday, and with the Mets in need of another spark in the lineup, Evan wants to see Baty with the big league club.
But he also acknowledges that it won't happen, at least not yet.
"Billy Eppler gave us his reasons, as much as I disagreed with them, not that long ago," Evan said. "I doubt, barring injury, he's gonna flip flop on why he believes Baty needs more time in Triple-A.
"I don't think we see him up here until at least May…I doubt he flip flops this quickly from his belief that he needs more time in Triple-A."
Craig posed that fans are overeating to Escobar's slow start, and the veteran could easily turn it around after just five games, but Evan says the evidence is there that Escobar has his limits, and it's time for the Baty era to begin.
"He's the No. 1 third base prospect in baseball, he tore it up in spring training, and Eduardo Escobar last year, while he had a great September, did nothing April through August," Evan said. "If Baty is the future at third base, which he is, what are we waiting for?"
