Evan: Mets should be 'situational buyers,' give up money and not prospects at deadline

The trade deadline is one week away, and Evan is anticipating the Mets adding to an extent, stopping at giving up any prospects to bolster the 2024 roster.

"I think the Mets are gonna do situational buys," Evan said. "Use their money, the power of the pocketbook to buy a reliever or two and not give up any prospect capital.

"I like that strategy. I don't want the Mets - even in a year in which they have a chance and anyone can go on a run in the playoffs - I don't want them mortgaging the future for a rental bullpen arm for the right now."

Evan believes the Mets will continue to make moves like they did in the trade for Phil Maton, acquiring a relief arm for cash considerations, and Tiki believes that is the way to go, as this team isn't worth sacrificing prospects for, but bringing in fringe relievers for minimal cost is justified.

"The Mets aren't going to win the World Series this year," Tiki said. "Especially with the best team in the league in their division…to trade [prospects] for a rental makes no sense."
