Evan furious that Max Scherzer 'choked' again: 'I don't want to hear about how dominant he was'

There's plenty of blame to go around for the Mets' recent struggles, but Evan is putting the bulk of it on Wednesday's starting pitcher, and the team's supposed ace.

"He is getting, not a free pass, but not enough energy is being pushed at his feet," Evan said. "The big, tough Max Scherzer and his $45 million.

"I don't want to hear about how dominant he was for three innings. I wipe my rear end with all his strikeouts from the first three innings. They gave this man a 2-0 lead. They gave this man a 4-1 lead. They kept giving him effing leads, and with two outs and nobody on in the fifth, Austin Riley base hit. Sean Murphy home run.  Sixth inning, two outs, nobody on, 0-2 pitch, double to Orlando Arcia. Double to Michael Harris. Single to Ronald Acuna."

Scherzer looked dominant early on in Wednesday's outing, but faltered at the tail end, washing away any optimism from the beginning of his outing, or his previous three starts, which had looked much better than how he began the 2023 campaign.

"This guy came here to be an ace," Evan said. "I don't care about his ERA was, or what his numbers are like. In the biggest starts he's been asked to make, he has choked."
