Jeff McNeil was once again not in the lineup on Tuesday night for the Mets win over the Nationals, and regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, Evan is just happy to see that David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza seem to have brought in a more accountable mindset to Queens.
“What we love to see is accountability,” Evan said. “McNeil has been and for a year and a half. And for the Mets to now be benching him, even though Jose Iglesias is not a prospect or the future of this team. It’s June. You’re trying to win games.”
McNeil has been dreadful this season, and has now sat two straight games, and three straight against lefty starters. But the accountability goes beyond just McNeil. Adrian Houser’s spot in the rotation, despite being acquired in the offseason, has proven to be no certainty as he has struggled badly, and once-hyped prospect Brett Baty was sent down to Triple-A. The Mets have made internal moves to try and put the best team on the field, even if they have struggled after a lackluster offseason, and Evan is a fan.
“I love the fact that the Mets are benching Jeff McNeil,” Evan said.
