As the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes heat up, Evan isn't sharing in the optimism of his fellow Mets fans that the star pitcher will wind up in Queens.
"If it comes down to flat out money and his agent is sitting there saying, 'Look, we just want to make the most money possible,' then yes, I would have the confidence that some of my fellow Met fans have," Evan said. "This is not about self-hating my own team. This is about being honest about my own team. Why would Yamamoto or anybody prefer the Mets over the Dodgers or the Yankees?"
With that in mind, Evan believes Yamamoto winds up out west with World Baseball Classic teammate Shohei Ohtani, and the Mets would likely be third on the list of potential teams that land the righty's services.
"If I was going to offer you a prediction, I think the Dodgers get him," Evan said. "If they don't, it's gonna be the Yankees, and guess what? Either answer is not the Mets, and if it's not the Mets, I know how my fellow Met fans are gonna react.
"They're gonna lose their freaking minds."
