Carton and Roberts carried Steve Cohen’s press conference live on air on Wednesday, and what was Evan’s instant reaction after Cohen wrapped things up?

“What the hell was the point of the last 25 minutes?” Evan said.

It wasn’t all frustrating for Evan, but he really didn’t like the frequency in which Cohen brought up the state of the team’s farm system, specifically the condition it was in when he purchased the team from previous ownership.

“He’s like every freaking president who sits there and blames the former administration for about an hour,” Evan said. “Now, I get it, he’s right about what he said about what the Wilpons left him with…but to hear that over and over again on June 28 in the middle of year three being the owner, it’s like, ‘Yeah, we know you’re right, but we don’t need to hear it again.’

“As a fan who is pissed off about the team, I get it…but nothing was said that makes me feel better.”

In terms of his most frustrated moment of the press conference, Evan could have done without Cohen raving about general manager Billy Eppler, considering the current state of the team and how last year’s trade deadline moves panned out.

“That was one of the most comical things I heard,” Evan said. “He’s so fortunate to find a failed general manager who failed in Anaheim.”

Still, there was the usual prevailing theme from Cohen that always gives Evan comfort: his owner will do whatever it takes to win.

“Here’s the best news I heard…he’s going to spend to make things right,” Evan said. “At the trade deadline, if they’re in the position as selling, he said ‘Hey, I look at these contracts as sunk costs anyway. If I gotta pay it off to get a better prospect, I’m gonna do it.’”
