Evan: Time to put 'dopey crap' narrative of Mets being 'gutless' to bed

The Mets are riding high after taking a series against the Braves in Atlanta, and Evan says the narratives about the team being "gutless" after an 0-5 start can be put to bed.

A 16-4 drubbing following a comeback after being four runs down and a near comeback after being six runs down shows that these Mets aren't without stones, like many declared them to be after last season and at the start of this season.

"Now, you feel a little bit differently about this team and this season," Evan said. "They showed guts, because the way they've won these games are gutty. The way they started this run in the doubleheader, being down 1-0 and being no-hit: gutty. The way they came back down 4-0 and everyone buried them: gutty."

The Mets typically struggle badly in Atlanta, but after that 0-5 start, they have won five of their last seven games, including taking two of three from the Braves. And their disastrous homestand to start the season suddenly feels like a long time ago.

"Let's put away that dopey crap from the first four games of the season," Evan said.
