Evan: Why can't these Mets be team that becomes massive surprise talked about for years?

The Mets completed a sweep of the Nationals on Thursday, a victory that moved them into a tie for the final Wild Card spot and put New York two games above .500 for the first time since they were 13-11 on the season.

With their latest win, Evan says it's time to buy into these Mets, who have officially got themselves a season now.

"You never know when your season is going to be the one we talk about years from now…you watch because things can turn when you least expect it," Evan said.

"Very rarely do they actually turn. This season, from the depths of hell, has somehow turned. Even when it was stopping…remember losing those two games to the Astros and two games to Washington? Remember when the party poopers told you that this now turns the Mets season around the other way? Well, the Mets have responded."

Evan looked back on other Mets seasons when expectations were low, and nothing came from them but pain and monotony. But every once in a while a team surprises in the best way, so why can't the 2024 Mets join that exclusive list?

"They still have a long way to go," Evan said. "But they have unburied their season."
