BT & Sal: Feels like Buck Showalter is a goner 'no matter what'

The Mets nearly completed a four-game sweep of the Cardinals this past weekend, and despite being buried in the Wild Card standings, have played some spirited baseball since selling at the trade deadline.

Despite the encouraging fight that the Mets have shown, BT and Sal don't believe it will be enough for the team to keep Buck Showalter for the final year of his contract.

But is that the right decision?

"I'm just going off of a feel," BT said. "I feel like he's gone no matter what, but that doesn't mean it's the right move. Boone has to go. it's expired. It's over. You can probably convince me, that while I don't know it's the best move, depending who you can bring in, you don't have to fire Buck."

"I don't think they have to, and I'm not saying what I would do. I just think, you get the feel that he's not gonna be there," Sal added. "But hypothetically, if [David] Stearns comes in, does he get to make that decision? When a new president takes over, I would assume everything is at least discussed."

BT wondered aloud if Brewers manager Craig Counsell would be brought along by Stearns if he indeed takes the president of baseball operations job with the Mets, but Sal would rather keep Showalter if it came to that.

"I value experience, but I also value experience in New York," Sal said. "You can throw in Beltran, put him in the mix…Counsell doesn't do it for me."
