Carlos Beltran is back with the Mets as a front office executive, and the team hopes to have him in Florida as a guest instructor for spring training this year.
Asked about the hiring on Thursday, Francisco Lindor raved about what Beltran could bring to the table in his new role with his former team.
“Huge asset,” Lindor said. “He's very knowledgeable, someone that has ups and downs in his career. Someone that will help Billy [Eppler] and other members of the front office to communicate with us.
“Sometimes we can’t really relate because whether they talk a different language or never played the game, but having Beltran, who has done both, he can definitely talk to the players and the front office…He's someone that the game needs, and I'm super excited for having him.”
Beltran was initially hired to be the Mets manager in 2019, but the two sides parted ways before Beltran managed a game after his role in the Astros’ sign stealing scandal was revealed. But three years later, Beltran has made his Mets return, and the team’s biggest star is thrilled to have him aboard.
