Super Bowl Sunday is just days away, and those watching in the New York area will be treated to a new Mets commercial to tease the upcoming season.
As Steve Cohen continues to try and make the Mets a household name, the franchise has put $1.5 million into this 30-second TV spot, according to Evan Drellich of The Athletic.
The commercial features several Mets manning the phones and making ticket sales for the upcoming season, including Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, newcomer Kodai Senga, Tomas Nido, and fittingly closing with Edwin Diaz.
The ad is the next step for the Mets in trying to entrench their brand in the sporting world, as on the field, Cohen continues to pour money into bolstering a roster that won 101 games last season.
"You go around the world, and you see people and they're wearing Yankee hats," Andy Goldberg, the team's chief marketing officer, told Drellich. "They're not wearing Yankee hats because they're Yankee fans, just to be clear. They're wearing Yankee hats because it's an 'NY,' and New York is cool, right? I want that to be a Met hat, 100 percent."
The ad, per Drellich, will air "near the end of the first quarter" on Sunday night.
