The Mets fell to another team well below .500 on Friday in a loss to the Marlins, and coupled with the Braves winning their eighth straight, Atlanta is now in first place for the first time since April.
New York needs to turn things around quickly, or hope for the defending champs to cool off from their torrid pace, to secure what would be its first division title since 2015. But Francisco Lindor says rather than turning things around, the Mets simply need to bust through.
"I think it's just baseball. It's that time of the year," Lindor said. "A lot of us kind of hit the wall. We've got to find ways to break through the wall, and do it together. That's what good teams do. I'm sure we're going to do it.
"We played the last two games in Pittsburgh and played well, [Friday] I think the pitching staff did well…we had good at-bats, we just didn't come through in the moments we actually needed to. That's what's happened the last week or two."
The Mets have played an even .500 ball in their last 10 games, but aside from a doubleheader sweep against the Pirates on Wednesday, have lost four games against far inferior teams in the last week. The offense hasn't been able to bust through that wall, and Lindor says that's what needs to happen to get the team back on track.
"That's kind of what's been happening the past week or two," Lindor said. "Like you said, we've been very consistent, but it's that time of year. Hopefully we can break through the wall and turn the page and try to win more games."
