Francisco Lindor took a big step towards a return from the IL on Wednesday.
Lindor, who was placed on the IL with an oblique strain last month, took batting practice at Citi Field prior to the resumption of Tuesday's suspended game against the Nationals. Lindor also took ground balls and played catch during pregame warmups.
The shortstop took multiple rounds of batting practice and practiced baserunning as well. He had been only taking dry swings before Wednesday, and his next step could be to face live pitching.
Manager Luis Rojas told reporters last week that Lindor was still week-to-week with no timetable for a return, but given his ability to take this next step in his recovery, he could make his return before the end of the month.
Lindor has slumped for most of the season but had been settling in at the plate before his injury, batting .288 with an .875 OPS in his last 20 games.
