Pete Alonso continues to struggle for the Mets, committing a crucial error in Thursday's loss to the White Sox, while a 1-for-4 day at the plate dropped his season OPS to .776, a far fall from the .831 mark he held just a month ago.
After the game, Alonso was left searching for the positives.
"I was proud of the swing decisions, that's a positive," Alonso said. "You have to find positives in every situation and make a meal out of a breadcrumb."
Gio and Jerry couldn't help but laugh at that answer.
"What, did he open up a fortune cookie and just read out of it last night?" Gio said.
Alonso is batting just .137 over his last 26 games, since he was hit on the wrist in Atlanta against Charlie Morton and the Braves. So, there seems to be a clear marker for his brutal slump, but Gio and Jerry just can't get behind some of his answers.
"He's out there," Jerry laughed.
