Tommy Pham told reporters on Thursday that the Mets didn’t have the “drive” that his current team in the Diamondbacks has, and if anyone on his former team disagreed, they needed to take a look in the mirror.
This comes not long after Pham told The Athletic that the Mets sports the “least hardest-working” position players he had ever seen.
Reacting to his most recent comments, Gio said he believes everything Pham is saying about the 2023 Mets.
“This guy is blowtorching the Mets!” Gio said. “I believe every word from this guy, because he was the most consistent Met player before he got traded…I believe everything he’s saying. I know it’s kind of taboo in the player world to our teammates like that, but it must have been bad for him to double down on the fact that the Mets were lazy, didn’t work hard, and just expected to win.
“If I’m David Stearns, I bring these comments up to the leadership council, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso, and be like, ‘What the hell is going on here?’”
Boomer also believes Pham’s assessment of a team that will go down as one of the most disappointing in franchise history, but also believes part of the problem has already been dealt with, since Buck Showalter and Billy Eppler are not returning in 2024.
“It goes back to the manager and the general manager,” Boomer said.
