Gio: Braves a better run organization than Mets, regardless of payroll disparity

The Mets still can't seem to solve the Braves after another loss on Wednesday night, and at this rate, Gio wonders if they ever will.

"Here's this team, no matter what they do, who they sign, how much money is spent, the Braves are always gonna be better," Gio said. "Whether it's the 90s, 2000s, now, it doesn't matter. They're always going to be better. It's just funny to them. Here come the big, bad Mets last year, leading the division the entire year, smack them around, talk a bunch of trash, and go to the playoffs. And they won the World Series the year before.

"This year, Steve Cohen pushing all his chips into the middle of the table, having the highest payroll in the history of the sport, and the Braves just beating the hell out of you. It's pathetic, it's frustrating, and it just feels like, as we sit here right now, they can't beat a team like that."

Gio hates watching the Mets and their record payroll lose to a recent World Series champion that has locked up all of their quality, young, homegrown players to team-friendly deals, operating exactly like Gio would like to see the Mets operate. Instead, they continue to be the little brother in the NL East.

"They're more well-constructed, better defensively, offensively, fundamentally, they're better at everything," Gio said. "Now, you're gonna see Spencer Strider against Justin Verlander, and if Spencer Strider out-pitches Verlander, it's just another example of the Braves and their organization bringing guys up, signing them to long-term deals early on, and the Mets bringing in these old, crotchety mercenaries and paying them $40 million to sit around in third place. It will be a perfect example of that."
