Gio: Could Mets be fielding Edwin Diaz trade calls if losing continues?
On Tuesday, Boomer said there was little doubt that the Mets would trade Pete Alonso if the team continued to lose and struggle in 2024.
While he still holds out belief that the Mets can finish above .500 in 2024, he says the idea of an Alonso trade will have to be on the team's mind as spring turns into summer.
"If Pete Alonso is playing well and doing well and has big numbers, it's gonna be a really tough decision for David Stearns," Boomer said.
Gio took it a step further, wondering if the team could even be swayed to deal their star closer this summer if things don't improve in Queens.
"Edwin Diaz. That's gonna be a guy where people are knocking on the door," Gio said. "He's not on an expiring contract. He's got a few more years left, which means, generally, you get more in return.
"If he's not dominating the way he was and the Mets are out of it…that is a possibility too, if you want to get a big haul from a desperate team looking for a closer."
